The Top 3 Apps for Wellbeing At Work

05 May 2022

How important is your well-being to you? Well-being has become a widely discussed topic around the world. The importance of well-being in the workplace is perhaps at the forefront of these discussions. Whether it’s getting in some exercise or adopting flexible home working, it’s certainly becoming increasingly important to many of us. But not every employer offers flexible home working with allocated mental health leave days. Even if yours does, that doesn’t mean you couldn’t use a little bit of extra help, right?

Poor Wellbeing = Poor Results

Once upon a time, wellness was not considered an important feature of the workplace. In fact, in many different work cultures (law, medicine, labouring) it may have been frowned upon to prioritize wellness over workload. Excessive hard work, no sleep, no lunch breaks and no social life were a normal part of life for many workers in the past.

But over time, it has become apparent that poor wellness at work leads to lower productivity, higher sickness rates, higher turnover and less profits. On top of that, it has become more culturally acceptable to talk about our mental health and overall wellness. The dialogue has shifted from hushing up mental health problems to actively acknowledging and dealing with them.

As such, technology has allowed us to maintain good mental wellness without visiting a psychiatrist.

Apps fulfill a great many roles within our daily lives. But did you know that they can support your well-being too? Here are our top X apps for your well-being at work.

Try to Find Some Headspace

Headspace is a wellness-focused app that helps you run through guided meditation, sleep stories and a number of anxiety-reducing practices. Free to download, Headspace makes meditation simple. Rather than requiring you to find blissful zen for an hour at a time, headspace breaks it down into chunks as small as 5 minutes. Now, if you can’t find 5 minutes in the day to do a little bit of meditation, then you may want to rethink your job.

One of the most important parts of using Headspace, something they frequently mention in their guided meditations, is finding a comfortable place to sit. Ergonomic office chairs like the Flexi-Chair Oka Office Chair don’t just help you during your allocated meditation time, but they support your back, neck, shoulders and career all year long.

Enjoy Pocket Love

Pocket Love is a wonderful game for android and iOS that allows you to slowly, and gradually build your dream house. Full of quirky dialogue and cute art styles, this slow paced game is perfect for spending 5 to 10 minutes here and there designing your home. Unlike a lot of app games, it doesn’t force you to play every day to succeed and there’s always something new to do.

The game itself is currently in beta and free to play, so you can expect there to be a few interesting updates as time goes by and more is added to Pocket Love. It’s the perfect app for when you take a quick 5 minute break during the day whilst stretching at a height-adjustable standing desk like the Home Office Standing Desk EG1. Plus, as an added bonus, you can have up to 4 pets. Enjoy your newfound mindfulness.

Take a Trip With AllTrails

AllTrails is an app all about getting outside. Whilst you can’t exactly do this during work, you can plan out your next hike, walk or run. AllTrails lets you search for a mix of curated and community submitted routes no matter where you live. You can filter by difficulty, length and even view photos from others who’ve tackled the route in the past and get some feedback on what to expect. What’s more, you can actually map out your own routes. Say you fancy taking on that nearby peak but want to start from a different location, that’s easy to do with AllTrails. The best part is, the whole app is free and you only need to pay if you want to download offline maps. Which is really handy if you’re going on hikes where you’ll lose phone signal.
