What to Expect for the New Normal

02 July 2021

You may very well have considered during the first time, "Wow, it might not be that awful. I get to study in my nightgown and spend time with my family."

It starts to seem like an eternity now, and you can't wait to return to class and your favorite local bars.

The lockdown has been a fascinating, tough, and at times uncomfortable experience for many of us. While it's admirable that some have attempted to portray this time as a game-changer or a period of introspection and growth, we all understand it's not that basic when career, social, and personal duties are factored in. Right now, some of us aren't okay. We're tired, irritable, and concerned, and we're gripped by a sense of dread.

If you've had any of these indications, you're most certainly suffering from quarantine fatigue:

  • Restlessness
  • Stress
  • Worrying everyday
  • Changes in appetite
  • Sleeping problems
  • Apathy
  • Flying thoughts
  • Or just a little uneasy overall

It's just daunting, and much of the weariness is from uncertainty and unpredictability.

It's as though we're floating in the midst of the waters. The water is COVID-19, and there is no shore on the horizon. It's that sense of isolation. It's almost as if there was nothing you can do — or that you'll do anything properly and yet become sick.

When you've had enough of the headlines

Have you been keeping up with the news since the start of the pandemic? It's normal that you're anxious and stressed out.

You have the right to be sad.

For recent months, the coronavirus has clearly been the elephant in our lives. It has changed anniversary gatherings and recreational opportunities drastically, as well as eliminating many of the services we rely on on a daily basis. These significant adjustments have caused a great deal of distress. We become emotionally drained or indifferent as a result of grieving the life we formerly knew.

This type of fatigue saps our motivation. We want to do nothing except flop down in bed. We're in a state of distress as a result of these trying circumstances, and we don't understand exactly what to do.

However, you must rest.

The best thing we can do is refresh and concentrate on our health. We will be trapped until we act quickly and rejuvenate. So, in an effort to be proper and be more present, it's critical to release stress. If we don't take care of ourselves, we'll implode. Our immune responses can also be compromised.

If you haven't done so before, meditation, relaxation, journaling, showering, spending time outside in the wilderness, and even watching hilarious videos are all excellent methods to unwind. For further peace of mind, check in with colleagues, pals, and relatives on a regular schedule.

Shifting your outlook might be advantageous.

If you've been struggling with some pretty complicated issues throughout the whole time, it may appear that your condition will never keep improving. But, there is a way ahead, and it begins with our mentality.

It's critical that when you're in a terrible situation, you accept it and enable yourself to understand the pain and grief that comes with it. Then take a few deep breaths and realize that nothing is everlasting. Evaluate your abilities, competencies, and potential paths forward. It's fine to be anxious, apprehensive, or disturbed about anything. Nonetheless, you must inevitably look for solutions.

Pause and meditate

It's not realistic to be okay 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and that's fine. If you're dealing with anxiety-related stress and feel like you're plummeting down, here is a wake-up call for you.

The most essential thing is to remember to relax. As quickly as you see yourself becoming nervous and agitated, take some deep breaths and give heed to your inhalation and exhalation. It forces you to escape your mind and reconnect to your emotions. It assists you in becoming more mindful. Then you can say to yourself, "Wait for a second, why am I entertaining these thoughts?" The concepts that enter our minds are beyond our command. We have authority over which beliefs we consider and which we dismiss as useless.

During these stressful periods, breathing is really vital. How so? So when we're worried, we tend to breathe shallowly or forget to breathe. We cannot receive adequate blood flow to the brain whenever we experience that. The brain requires around 20% more oxygenation than the entire body. So, if you don't receive enough oxygen to your brain and it reaches a critical point, the brain will induce anxiousness to get you breathing again. That's why it's crucial to simmer down and breathe deeply to recenter yourself.

Change the way you think about anxiety

Concentrate more about the duties, responsibilities, and obligations you have today to help you look forward to the future in a more positive manner. In public locations, wear a face mask. Go wash your hands. Self-care is important.

Do not concentrate on the unpleasant - Worrying about contracting the disease or even how ill you could become is counterproductive. Allowing your imagination to wander in "what about if..." scenarios with no resolutions can cause you to become nervous.

Wear a face mask, keep your hands clean, and follow social distancing protocol if you're concerned about everything.

If a problem is beyond your control, what should you do? There is nothing you can do to alter the endgame. Make an effort to let things go.

How should you adapt to "the new normal"?

The expression "after things return to routine" has been flung a bit recently. It would be lovely if we just conjured all of the events of the last several months away. O on the other hand, seize this as an opportunity to assess if we were absolutely delighted with our lifestyles prior to the outbreak.

Being in a lockdown can be hard and adjusting to the new normal can even be debilitating. That is why you need to know what you can do to keep yourself sane in the midst of these unusual circumstances that we are in.
