1. Maintain a Healthy Workplace Culture
A lot of people struggle to stay healthy and happy because of an unhealthy workplace. Come to think of it, the workplace is where most people spend most of their day. What happens in the workplace will greatly affect your health both mentally and physically on a daily basis. Unfortunately, a lot of people overlook the value of having a good workplace, without realising that it is subtly the cause of a lot of their struggles.
Talk to your boss to set healthy working limits, make sure to invest in your desk accessories, and prioritise your own health over working extreme hours. Your future self will thank you!
2. Avoid Burnouts
Burnouts can be very detrimental to your health. Many times, you can experience burnouts without even realising it. These tend to happen when you push yourself to the limit without letting your body and mind recover.
From time to time, make sure you take breaks to relax and be worry free. Set apart some time for yourself - it really isn’t healthy to be thinking about work 24/7. Perhaps you want to go to the gym, go walking, enjoy a meal outside with your family, etc. It is important to remember that you need to take a breather every now and then.
Do not be ashamed to admit that you need to take some rest. It’s a crucial part of working harder and even the most successful of people make sure to sleep, rest and relax adequately. It may lead to you being slightly less productive in the short-run, but you’ll be far more productive, healthy and happy in the long run.
3. Control Your Vices
A lot of people are held back from succeeding and performing well because of their vices, whatever these may be. Because they cannot seem to break free from their vices, they choose to live with them and continue letting these activities hold them back.
Whether it's smoking, drinking, or other unhealthy addictions, you must do what you can in order to stop being hooked on these things. It is not only true that they are unhealthy from a physical perspective, but they’ll affect your mental health too.
While there’s nothing with enjoying yourself and de-stressing every once in a while, having unhealthy drinking or partying habits will wear you down.
It will negatively affect your ability to be productive at work, your relationships with family and friends, and your overall outlook in life. Instead of focusing on your goals, you will be focusing on temporary and fleeting pleasures which won’t bring long-term happiness.
Try and reduce the frequency of your drinking/smoking/partying initially. Instead of going out 5 times a week, perhaps try and go out once a week instead. That way you can still enjoy yourself, but you’re not letting your vice control you.
4. Eat Healthy
This may sound like cliche advice, but the numbers don’t lie. The majority of the population of people are eating unhealthy foods often, leading to sky-high rates of obesity.
This is due to a variety of factors. First of all, unhealthy foods are readily available. When you want them, you can have them very quickly. Because of how easy they are to obtain, it becomes far easier to rely on junk food than whole foods.
It also isn’t helpful that unhealthy foods are cheaper than healthy foods. It is true that eating healthy is generally more expensive, but that is usually if you buy it from the stores. If you are diligent enough, you can make your own healthy meals at home for much lower costs. To eat healthier, find some cheap foods like pasta, ground chicken, tuna and simple vegetables. You can make some great meals out of some key healthy ingredients. Avoid sugary foods and fried snacks when you can - these are a big no-no.
This coming 2023, make the choice to eat healthy. If this has never been common practice for you and your family, then it might prove difficult to transition from all the bad eating habits you have been accustomed to over the years. In that case take it step by step - maybe in week 1 you can reduce the number of sugary snacks to twice a week. Then you can progress further and further to make sustainable, yet very effective changes over time.
5. Exercise
Exercise is often overlooked in our society today. The sad reality is that people always talk about wanting to be healthy and getting in shape, yet they aren’t willing to put in the necessary work in order to achieve their goals.
Exercise shouldn’t be that hard to do - you don’t need too much time and you don’t even need a gym! There are tons of great home workouts you can find online these days that only go for about 10 to 15 minutes each. A quick Youtube search will get the job done!
A lot of people fail to realise that having a physically active lifestyle will not only benefit you physically, but mentally too. Getting that daily workout in will make you feel great that you accomplished a task, plus it makes your body feel lighter, stronger and more supple at the same time. Having a daily exercise routine is not so much about having a perfectly shaped body - it’s about being healthy. Once you focus on being healthy, the physique you want to achieve will undoubtedly follow!
Make sure to follow these 5 top tips and you’ll find yourself healthier than ever! Best of luck.
