Lousy Morning Habits to Avoid

07 July 2021

Almost all of us sleep with our phones nearby, plugged in charging. We have our reasons for doing so, for sure. We have a flashlight handy in case we have to get up in the middle of the night, or if there is an emergency, we are more likely to hear the ring tone, and our phones frequently double as alarm clocks as well. However, placing your phone on the bedside might also lead to this unhealthy morning habit.

According to studies, 80 percent of smartphone users check their phones within the first 15 minutes after waking up. It generally means that you are requesting to be swamped by the start of your day. Whether it's social networks, texting, email, or whatever else it is you're keen to check, it's likely to generate tension, disrupt you from your morning routine, or otherwise lead you down a rabbit hole of wasting your time.

Everybody loves to advise on creating an incredible morning ritual, but when it comes to execution, there may be a few simple blunders that are all too common. Snoozing, commencing your day from bed, and abandoning your early productivity time for a late-night binge are all possible ways to ruin the potential of your mornings.

An increasing amount of studies indicates that the best time to think or be creative is in the morning. According to one study, the times believed to be the least favorable for thinking and innovation, such as first thing in the morning, are the most effective.

Eliminate your productivity-killing morning routines, and you will see a significant improvement in your days and even years ahead.

Inadequate Sleep

This is one of the most frequently disregarded issues that wreak havoc on performance. When we work on little sleep, our cognitive performance declines, and our productivity suffers as a result. Rest is critically necessary; without it, we cannot function efficiently. If you want to be productive, you must obtain enough quality sleep.

Jumping Out of Bed

If you push yourself to get out of bed as soon as you hear the dreadful alarm, you will be less inclined to stay there debating whether or not the morning commute can offer you an extra five minutes of sleep time. However, this dramatic move immediately detaches you from your body. Spend a few minutes stretching and elongating your body as much as you can. When you lengthen out your body, you will truly feel much more confident. Aside from improving your mood, stretching first thing in the morning boosts blood supply to all parts of your body.

The Snooze Button

The main issue with pushing the snooze is that you haven't even stepped out of bed yet, and you've already failed. If you don't just tough it up, throw the covers off, and begin your day, you'll be in the poor frame of mind for the rest of the day. If you didn't hit the snooze button, you'd feel a lot more optimistic, robust, and ready to take on the day. Avoid hitting the snooze button by all means if you want to have a productive day.

Immediately Checking Your Phone

According to one survey, one out of every four young individuals checks their phones upon waking up. It's tempting, to be sure, especially with so much information available on social media, email, and text messages these days. When you're drowsily waking up, it's critical to focus on the present and appreciation, ground yourself in your own physique with some morning movements, and write down your thoughts. And, once you've fully awakened and finished a healthy morning ritual, you'll be better prepared to manage any job problem or good news.

Skipping Breakfast

Getting by on cheap and easy microwavable crepes or a $2 fast-food breakfast sandwich will not set you up for a great day. Avoid sweets and high-carbohydrate foods, especially during breakfast. Make sure you eat something that won't make you sluggish by midday. The goal is to feel energized for the upcoming responsibilities. To stay full and energized throughout the day, strive to include lean protein and good fats in your breakfast. This will help you feel fuller longer and nourish your brain for the remainder of the day.

In addition, omitting your morning meal has been related to compulsive overeating later in the day. Eating first thing in the morning helps balance your blood glucose levels, which will not happen if you wait until later. Enjoy a delicious breakfast high in protein, whole grains, fruits, or vegetables, such as eggs, whole grain bread, oats, or a fruit cup, are recommended.

Not Hydrating

The average individual gets 6-8 hours of sleep each night. That's a long time without drinking water. Instead of worsening your dehydration with coffee, drink a glass of water. Because humans are made up of more than 70% water, you must drink one ounce of water for every pound you weigh throughout the day. Including water in your morning ritual:

  • Revs up your metabolism
  • Boosts your energy
  • Aids in fighting sickness

Too Much Time Getting Ready

Rather than mindlessly browsing and scanning while gearing up for the day, listen to thought-provoking podcasts or talk. If you prefer to read, consider reading a book or an informative article online. The idea is to do something stimulating to your brain during the first 60 minutes of waking up so that you may be more innovative, stimulated, efficient, and involved throughout the day.

Not Interacting

Make a considerable effort to engage in conversation with individuals in the initial few hours of your awakening. This might be family, housemates, the guy at the bagel shop, or colleagues. Encourage yourself to have one constructive conversation every morning and see what happens to your productivity and overall attitude.

So, instead of grabbing your phone first thing in the morning, do something else. Charge it somewhere further away from you so that you are not confronted with a desire the moment you wake up every day. Making errors in your morning ritual seems to have a high cost. Picture the revolutionary ideas for your company, next article, or even your next road trip that could arise in the sunlight of the day. Check to see whether you're making any of the errors mentioned, which will cost you productivity and peace of mind.
